FAMOUS faces from the world of rugby and entertainment were among the racegoers at Ffos Las in Carmarthenshire as NSPCC Cymru/Wales held its latest successful family race day at the course.

Despite inclement weather, more than 2,500 people attended the Ffos Las Family Charity Race Day which was held at the Carmarthenshire course on Sunday 17th September.

The race day managed to raise close to £19,000 for the leading children’s charity, which included seven races throughout the day and a three course lunch for 165 guests.

Wynne Evans, the BBC Wales presenter and the face of the Go Compare adverts, entertained the lunch guests, while rugby star George North joined him onstage for a Q&A session – open to both the public and the diners.

He was joined by current Wales rugby star Ken Owens and 75 times capped ex-international Ryan Jones during the lunch.

The racecourse also organised musical entertainment in the shape of tribute acts, including Robbie Williams and Little Mix, plus activities for the younger guests.

Money raised at the events for the NSPCC, such as the Ffos Las Family Charity Race Day, support the charity in delivering safety messages directly to children, like the ‘Speak out Stay Safe’ school’s service assemblies.

Launched in 2011, children at more than 1,500 schools in Wales have so far received safety messages on how to speak out about abuse from specially-trained NSPCC staff and volunteers along with Buddy, the service’s mascot.

Nearly 500 NSPCC visits took place in Welsh schools last year, during which more than 58,000 children were reached with safety messages through the mediums of English and Welsh.
