INTERNATIONAL OPERA STARS TO SING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM AT CHEPSTOW RACECOURSE FOR THE CORAL WELSH GRAND NATIONAL

International opera stars Rebecca Evans and Wynne Evans are pairing up for the first time to sing the national anthem at the biggest race of the year in Wales, the Coral Welsh Grand National held at our sister race track, Chepstow Racecourse. Rebecca, a soprano who recently sung for Prince Charles at his 70th birthday party, has performed the anthem on several previous occasions but Wynne will be making his debut appearance at Chepstow.

Wynne, a tenor, has had a successful career in opera and is well known for his role in the Go Compare advertisements as well as his BBC Wales radio show.

Each singer will receive a donation to their chosen charity with Rebecca supporting the Welsh Alzheimer’s charity Ty Hapus and Wynne supporting Tŷ Cymorth Hospice, a specialist palliative care unit in Carmarthen.

The Coral Welsh Grand National, scheduled for Thursday 27th December, is expected to attract more than 10,000 spectators.

The anthem is sung just before the horses line-up at the starting line and has become a tradition for the customers in the packed stands as well as ITV Racing viewers across the country.

Last year, 16 year old Welsh jockey James Bowen became the youngest rider to win the race when he rode 13 year old Raz De Maree to victory for Irish trainer Gavin Cromwell.

Gates open at 10am and tickets can be bought in advance for £29.

Tickets are available at chepstow-racecourse.co.uk or by calling 01291 622260.
