Ffos Las has helped ride to the rescue of jumps-starved fans this week.

The Carmarthenshire course will stage an additional meeting on Thursday, following the big freeze which decimated National Hunt action in the early part of the week.

Last Saturday’s fixture at Sandown was the last jumps action in Britain before the temperatures plummeted and snow and ice covered the country.

There has been snow in West Wales, but the weather has been less severe than in the rest of the country and Ffos Las has stepped in by arranging a seven-race card.

The highlights of the action look to be two Class 3 contests, one a three-mile handicap chase and the other a two-and-a-half mile novices’ handicap chase.

Trainers have clearly welcomed the chance for some action, with a healthy 135 entries made at the opening declaration stage, including multiple entries from the yards of Dan Skelton and Nicky Henderson.
Leading Welsh trainers Evan Williams, Mickey Bowen, Sam Thomas and Tim Vaughan could also have runners.

Ffos Las clerk of the course Tracey O’Meara told the Racing Post: “It’s due to stay above freezing from Tuesday morning.

“It doesn’t look like it’ll dip below 4C from Tuesday onwards, night or day.
“There’s some rain forecast but Thursday looks to be dry.
“We’ve got the benefit of being beside the sea, so we don’t tend to get the really cold weather.”
