Millie Wonnacott (photographed with Oviedo) made the most of a rare visit to Ffos Las last week by taking the riding honours with a double.

Wonnacott had drawn a blank on her 12 mounts at the Carmarthenshire course before last week. But she broke her duck in style by winning on both of her rides.

The first of those came on board Oviedo for Alexandra Dunn. And it could possibly be the easiest winner she will ride this season. The pair moved smoothly into the lead two furlongs from home and quickly put daylight between themselves and their rivals, eventually coming home 12 lengths clear despite being eased down in the final stages.

Oviedo’s best form entitled him to win this Class 6 contest with something to spare. At his peak he had finished fourth in the Cambridgeshire at Newmarket in 2003 and he was once rated a lofty 105.

But his form had tailed off in recent seasons – he had beaten just eight horses home in his previous 11 races – and he arrived at Ffos Las with a rating of 49.

Wonnacott’s second winner came on Belle of Kt in the concluding 12-furlong handicap, run an hour before Ffos Las was shrouded in darkness due to the solar eclipse.

There was no easing down on this occasion as Wonnacott kept the five-year-old up to his work in the closing stages to hold off the persistent challenge of warm favourite A Daughters Love.

Training heavyweights Ralph Beckett and Simon and Ed Crisford were also on the mark.

Attention now switches to the most popular occasion of the year at Ffos Las – Ladies’ Day. It takes place on Friday when thousands are expected to descend on the track for one of the biggest social events in the Carmarthenshire calendar.

There will be entertainment before and after a six-race card. Swansea band DMF, who were a big hit at last year’s Ladies’ Day, get the evening’s music under way, which is followed by a DJ set from Lovely Laura and Ben Santiago.

David Evans’ consistent sprinter Supreme King has had a busy time in 2026, but he has held his form well and his victory at Salisbury in midweek was his fourth of the year. Partnered by champion jockey Oisin Murphy, he won a first prize of almost £8,000 in comfortable fashion.

David Probert is fast closing in on a half-century of winners and he began this week on the 48 mark after a productive few days.

He notched up a double at Epsom on Friday, supplementing his victory on board Modern Times in a six-furlong handicap for James Owen by landing a mile contest on Loblolly.

And his link-up with Lincolnshire trainer Michael Herrington paid dividends on Sunday when the pair combined at Southwell to win a mile handicap with Heretic.
